From Surplus Energy to Industrial Steam: Proceq's E-Boiler & Reboiler Project

The energy transition is no longer a distant goal. It's happening on the factory floor. In a landmark project for a leading pharmaceutical company, Proceq designed and engineered a cutting-edge combination of an Electric Boiler (E-boiler) and a custom Reboiler, proving that industrial processes and sustainability can go hand in hand.

The E-boiler produces steam in a fully electric way, drawing power from renewable sources such as solar panels and wind turbines, as well as surplus electricity from the grid. This surplus, generated when renewable energy production exceeds demand, is purchased at lower prices, giving companies a direct financial incentive to go green. The steam produced is then fed into the Reboiler, which converts it into high-temperature steam ready for use in demanding production processes. Together, these two technologies form a highly efficient system that reduces energy consumption while boosting industrial performance.

This is no small installation. The Reboiler stands 3 meters tall, stretches 7 meters in length, and weighs 17 tons empty. It operates at a design pressure of 25 bar and is powered by a 10 MWe electric boiler, figures that reflect the industrial ambition behind this project.

Proceq played a central role in every phase: thermal calculations using HTRI software, mechanical studies, production coordination, and full certification under the Pressure Equipment Directive (PED). Every component was custom-designed to meet the client's specific requirements, ensuring maximum safety, efficiency, and reliability.
